Legend has it that the rocky outcrop, known as the Rock of Cashel found its way there when Patrick banished Satan from a cave on a mountain known as the Devil’s Bit, some thirty miles away, and the mountain landed upside down in its present location. It is believed to be the site of the conversion to Christianity of the Kings of Munster by Patrick in the 5th century.
